I predicted Kyle (left) to be a serious contender in 2009 – 3 years later Kyle Kasperbauer takes 3rd place at the CrossFit Games. Rich Froning (right) looks to be the favorite for 2013; a one man dynasty ?

This photo was snapped just as the run, muscle up, snatch event started. Rich Froning won this heat. This was the “top” heat.

We got up at 3:45 AM and made the treck to Camp Pendleton. The athletes showed up a couple of hours later, got in the water, road bikes, and ran. The day was long and filled with great photo opportunities.
The fittest man in the the world, again.
Rich Froning is the 2012 CrossFit Games Champion. This photo was taken about 8 minutes into the first event. Kyle Kasperbauer, seen in the foreground took third place. The 2012 CrossFit Games had nearly 70,000 competitors.
ISO160, f/6.3, 1/800, 500mm
Shot was take hand-held at maximum range, 500mm.
It seemed impossible, to repeat as a CrossFit Games Champion, until Rich Froning arrived on the scene. Rich put on a spectacular show for the packed house at the 2012 Central East CrossFit Games Regionals.
I carried two cameras at this event.

Rich Froning, the fittest man on earth, using a bat.
I went to Wal-Mart and bought $300 dollars worth of goodies to smash with a bat. Here you can see Rich sending a red onion into a snowy field. A pile of wood and debris was lit on fire to keep us warm during this photo shoot.
Dan Bailey won the 2011 CrossFit Open and took 6th place in the 2011 CrossFit Games. This year Dan has been training with the 3 best CrossFitters in the world (Mikko Salo (Right), Graham Holmberg, Rich Froning).
Rich Froning and one of his training partners, EZ, finishing a short sprint WOD (1000 meter row,
10 muscle ups, for time) in 2011 just a couple months before Rich’s 2011 CrossFit Games victory.
He did it, he won the 2011 CrossFit Games. He took the title and the $250,00o prize money back to Cookeville, Tennessee.
Taking photos of Froning is easy. He is 100% genuine.
Rich, like any professional, respects the other professionals in his presence.
He did his thing, and I did my thing and the photos just kept flowing.
Here are three more from the Froning collection.
